NXRK2013R: An elaborate fix to a nonexistent problem.

If you’re reading this, and you’ve seen this site before, you may notice the new design. I’m calling it ‘Redux’ because it’s rather fitting. But more importantly, because it’s the first thing that popped into my head, and i’m running with it.

The reasons for a new theme, in simple terms, are as follows:

  1. I felt like it.

The reasons for a new theme, in technical terms, are as follows:

  1. The font choice for the previous theme, while quite attractive, just wasn’t too¬†readable In trying to make the design content-focused, I fell into the trap of making it little more than just the content. There’s a difference between minimalism and not doing anything, and it just looked more like it was the latter.
  2. I want to do more code-focused posts. I’m good with code. I’m not good with remembering it. I need somewhere I can keep an easily maintainable depository of some of my code solutions; and if anyone else can learn from it or use it, all the better. The old theme was awful for displaying code – it’s just something i’ve never really done before. This time, I’ve gone out of my way to try and make it as good as it can be, even if it is basically just monokai
  3. After playing around with some light jQuery intro animation on my portfolio, I had a silly little idea for a loading animation. You can view it by hitting the ‘Home’ link, or just by going to nxrk.co.uk¬†- I fully understand it’s basically just a gimmick, and seeing it on every page would just be annoying. Hopefully, these should be the only two instances in which you see it.
  4. I find dark themes when you’re actually trying to display something far more useful (particularly for pictures.) The normal pink colour didn’t work too well with the darker tones, so i opted for a new colour. By a happy accident, it’s a little Tron-ish.
